Ghana’s Yaw Tog the Young and Fast Rising Artist

 BET Amplified forms part of UK-based network BET International’s efforts to emphasise the works of emerging voices around the world through feature stories and video content. It also comes after fellow Ghanaian musician Amaarae was named BET Amplified International Artist in February. 

“BET International is proud to announce Yaw Tog as our April BET Amplified International Artist of the Month,” BET UK wrote on Twitter. “BET Amplified is our seal of approval on the next big thing in music! Stay tuned to our social accounts to see more of Yaw Tog throughout the month of April.”

Widely considered the face of drill in Ghana, Yaw Tog is popular for the breakout hit ‘Sore’, whose remix features Kwesi Arthur and British-Ghanaian rapper Stormzy. Yaw Tog is also behind the seven-track Time EP, which was released in March.

In late March, Yaw Tog won the Hip Hop Song of the Year Award at the 3Music Awards. He has also scored two nominations ahead of the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

21st Edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA)

The 21st edition of the  Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA)  is now done and dusted. The awards ceremony, which was a two-day affair took place on Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29 at the Grand Arena inside the Accra International Conference Centre. Friday's event was the Industry Awards while Saturday's event was the Public Awards. In all about 30 awards were given out to deserving artistes. Highlife musician Kuami Eugene emerged the overall Artiste of the Year and also won the Highlife Artiste of the Year. Another Highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata won three awards; Songwriter of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year with his hit track  Things Fall Apart . The female rapper suggested that Kwesi’s Arthur’s best rapper award at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was not deserved. In an interview with Angel 102.9 FM’s Okyeame Quophi, the rapper spoke about the VGMAs especially the rapper of the year category in which she was nominated. Eno congratulated Kwesi Arthur for the win but stated regardless that the best rapper in Ghana currently is a woman.
